Start your Prayer Chain on red and green paper strips to decorate your tree. Have families suggest people to invite into your church for services, bible study or to your special events.

Creating a Prayer Chain

As the “Christ”mas season approaches, you may be looking for a way to use the power of the Holy Spirit to connect your church to those in your community. One way to get your members involved, is to create a church wide prayer chain.

Begin by cutting up strips of paper–green and red are a festive color choice!

During one of your weekly services or meetings, invite all of your members to take one, or a few strips of paper. Have them reflect on people who they would like to see connect back into the Church, or need God’s grace and healing in their life. The advent season is very busy, but it also marks the beginning of a new church year and symbolizes renewal and rebirth for everyone.

Don’t forget to include the children in this activity. Ask them to think about family and friends who they would like to pray for

After you have distributed all the paper strips, during the next service or throughout the season, invite them to add their piece to the chain. Start by making a loop of one piece, and then connect each one by looping and attaching them together by glue, tape or staple.

As you build your prayer chain, begin to decorate your Christmas tree or hang it around the church for all to pray for and enjoy. If you want to take it a step further, use our Prayer Request Cards to help gather your member’s specific requests for the Christ centered season. What a great way to invite your members to prayerfully reflect on those who need to be called to God’s church.
